I have this much more to do:
and then I will be done with the Chestnut Ochre Socks, and my first pair of socks for the Summer of Sox 2008 KAL. I should have these done tonight, barring any natural disasters. It has been almost six days so far, and one person in the KAL has THREE pairs of socks done already. I am sadly lacking....
Here is what I have done on the Roses 'N Thyme Socks:
These are my first socks using Size 1 DPNs. Is it just me, or does it take 17,000 more hours to knit a pair of socks with Size 1s? My mother-in-law, Mary Ann, who these socks are for, has a size 7 1/2 foot. I usually cast on 56 stitches, and didn't want to go down to 48 (why? I really don't know now...), so I went down a needle size instead. Size 2s work perfect for my very large and wide Size 9 feet. The stitches just seem to glide. Maybe it is the yarn? And, Size 0 and 00 and OMG 000, wouldn't it take two YEARS to knit a pair of socks? What's your opinion? I am ready to start the heel flap on this one (7" cuff instead of 8" cuff). I might have even been further along if I didn't have to spend a half hour UNDER the picnic table looking for one of the needles that fell through. I am so graceful.
Here is my third pair I just started on:
Back to my Size 2s (sigh...). These I will call Blue Acorn Socks. I found a good stitch pattern that goes with this 1x1 rib in Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Sock Book. It's called, well, Acorns.... And the yarn IS blue, right? We'll see how these turn out. I have 8 more days to finish all three pairs if I want to stick to my goal of three pairs every two weeks.
Wish me luck. Dani

I am definitely a DPN person instead of a "magic loop" person--possibly just for those joyous scavenger hunts when the 4th needle gets lost. It's like a little knitting safari....
