Ms. Create (It's always about the sticks and string...)

A time to cut.....

I knew the day would come when I would do this, but I'm not sure I really thought about it until now.  You see, Oranje is ready for the big cut:

 
I was happily knitting along, cast off, weaved in all the ends, admired my progress, got the directions to see what I needed to do next and then, it hit me . . . . oh... it's that time.  I'm not too worried mind you, this is wool, not even superwashed wool.  It's not supposed to unravel.  And I'm going to reinforce with my sewing machine.  I'm just not sure exactly how to do it yet.

I started by putting that stitch in you see above so I know where the center is.

 
Now, I just need to watch eleventy-billion more steeking tutorials on youtube, and I might be ready!

 
I'm not sure what kind of "button bands" I'm going to knit, because it's getting a zipper.  I was thinking those braids would be so cool there, but this being my first cut and zipper, I'm not going for the crazy!  Something easy, like stockinette with a folded purl edge to cover the hems.

Oh - inside out?  Sure!

 
Does anyone know if I need to sew this from the inside, or the outside?

Up the Yoke I go!

HA!  You thought since I was sucked into the game on FaceBook that I wouldn't be knitting still.  I did manage to keep my skills going, and worked on Oranje.  I actually had a couple of blog posts I wanted to do about knitting it, but, well, there you go.  I'll catch up a little now.

Oranje is going well.  I figured out that following the directions when casting on for the sleeves actually works.  Case in point:

 
These are turned inside out.  You can tell the one on top was done right.  That means, if the directions say cast on with orange before changing to black, and you think, yeah, right - it's all black, you would be wrong.  When doing the hem part of the sleeve, you will knit the orange stitches together, making a nice unnoticeable hem.  If you cast-on with black, well, then as you can see it's noticeable.  The designer is a genuis I tell ya!  :D  Now since I am not a genius, and this is inside the sleeve, I am not redoing that braiding (which is actually easy when you get the hang of it).  In fact, the second sleeve:

 
is done.... and I am well on my way up the yoke!

 
Actually, I've got the two yoke braids done already, but no picture yet.

Yes, that game does have its disadvantages......
