We are halfway through Week 6 of the Summer of Socks 08, and we still have four weeks to go until cast-off on September 1st. Are you in the SOS 08? How are you feeling about knitting socks right now? Ha Ha. Actually, I'm not sick of them yet, although I am missing knitting on my other projects. I usually knit on socks every day. How much do you knit during the day? Me? Well.......
4:30 a.m. - ALARM... Sit up in bed and turn on bedside light (piss-off husband who then covers his face with blanket while whispering sweet nothings). Knit socks.
5:00 a.m. - Make Pop Tarts. There is a finesse to these as they need to be double toasted and crispy but not burnt. Get back into bed. Knit socks.
5:40 a.m. - Put socks away (sigh...), eat Pop Tarts and read.
6:00 a.m. - Run around like an idiot because husband is now waiting in the living room pacing and you got caught-up reading and forgot what time it is. Throw clothes on, wash face, brush teeth, blah blah blah
6:15 a.m. - In car. Ride to work (hour). Knit car socks.
Note - just in case you think I am a filthy girl, I take my shower before bed so Paul can have the bathroom in the morning. Believe me, it is worth wild hair not to have to deal with him in the bathroom in the morning. Those of you who are married or living with a significant other know exactly what I'm talking about. Besides, my hair is very long and I just stick it in a pony tail anyway. I brush my hair once I get to work. Okay - I admit I could be a little lazy here.
7:00 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Work
4:15 p.m. - In car. Ride home (hour). Knit car socks.
Once I am home it is officially "prime" knitting time. This is the time when I usually knit something other than socks. Right now, though, its socks. There is also some knitting time in bed before I go to sleep. Do you knit in bed?
Of course, when you enter work into the mix, I've missed knitting time all day! Sometimes I may work on my car socks a little during lunch hour, but most times I don't take one.
After SOS 08 I'll keep the sock schedule, but use the "prime" knitting time to knit other stuff. On my old "schedule" I usually knit two pairs of socks a month. On SOS 08, I've knit 7 pairs so far and am working on 8 and 9 right now. The Austermann Step Socks are my "car" socks. Here's how far I got:
Here's the "prime" socks (the red and blue yarn I'm mixing up):
OH, and lest you think we don't get any housework done around here, you should see Paul. He wields a wicked vacuum cleaner. Actually, I'm usually trying to watch t.v. and knit, and have to lift up my legs so he can vacuum under them. Can you say "role reversal"? :) Me? Organization first, cleaning later (much).
awesome socks...and I think your schedule sounds great...especially with all the sock knitting thrown in!

Ok. I just can't even *fathom* being up at 4:30am to be at work at 7am. You are a much more dedicated knitter than I!!

I love my sleep so that 4:30 AM sock knitting would not work for me, but I love the dedication you have to your knitting schedule.
I knit every chance I get but it is not as scheduled, I do have car socks though that go everywhere I go.
Ummm is Paul for hire, I could use a house keeper.

I knit in bed, but not at 4:30 a.m.! It is usually late night knitting for me. :) What a whopper of a schedule!

I could never cope with waking up at 4.30, let alone starting work at 7, but for the knitting .... Maybe it's worth it. Lovely socks!

Goodness, I thought getting up at 6 am for a 7 am train was hard. I don't knit in bed on a regular basis. In fact I think I've only done it once or twice. Summer of Socks has been fun, but I am starting to itch for another project.

I don't knit in bed. Too many bodies (the big guy, myself, Bunny dog and Buster dog.) And I need more sleep than that.
I love your car sock yarn. Those colors look good together.

P.S. Thanks for looking for the pastel yarn for me. I'm not giving up yet!

Wow. I wish I were that disciplined!! And 4:30 AM?? Ugggghhh.
The socks look good. Keep it up!

Wow--can you say "impressed?" I'm going to have to explore that whole wife-watching-tv-while-the-husband-vacuums thing. Was it a long training process and was shock therapy involved???
